Week 3 Theme: Growing Through Adversity
*Opening Reflection:
Every athlete will face adversity. A tough loss. A bad game. An injury. Limited playing time. Adversity doesn’t mean you’re failing—it means you’re being tested. What matters most isn’t what happens to you, but how you respond when it does.
Scripture:
“Consider it pure joy… whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance.” — James 1:2–3
Devotional Message:
Adversity reveals character. It shows whether you quit, complain, or grow. God often uses hard moments to build strength you can’t gain when everything is easy. The athletes who improve the most are the ones who stay focused, coachable, and disciplined even when things don’t go their way.
Instead of asking, “Why is this happening to me?” ask, “What can this teach me?” Every challenge is an opportunity to grow tougher, wiser, and more confident. How you respond to adversity today will shape the athlete—and person—you become tomorrow.
Reflection Questions:
• How do I usually respond when things don’t go my way?
• What challenge am I facing right now?
• How can I choose growth instead of frustration this week?
Player Prayer:
God, help me stay strong when things are hard. Teach me to trust You in difficult moments and to respond with effort, patience, and faith. Help me grow through adversity instead of giving up. Amen.
