Coachability Unlocks Growth
Opening Reflection
Every athlete wants to improve—but not every athlete is willing to be coached. Coachability isn’t about being perfect; it’s about being teachable. The athletes who grow the most are the ones who listen, apply feedback, and stay humble, even when correction is hard to hear.
Scripture
📖 “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.” — Proverbs 12:1
Devotional Message
Coachability starts with humility. It means understanding that you don’t have all the answers—and that’s okay. Coaches correct because they believe in your potential. Feedback isn’t a personal attack; it’s an opportunity to get better.
When you resist coaching, growth stops. When you embrace it, confidence grows. God often uses coaches, teammates, and even tough conversations to shape you. If you want to reach your goals, you must be willing to listen, adjust, and trust the process.
Ask yourself this week: Am I open to learning, or am I defending my comfort? Coachable athletes don’t just improve their skills—they build character that lasts.
Reflection Questions
-
How do I usually respond to correction?
-
Am I listening to learn or listening to respond?
-
What feedback do I need to apply this week?
Player Prayer
God, help me stay humble and teachable. Give me a heart that listens, learns, and grows. Help me receive correction with maturity and use it to become a better athlete and person. Amen.
