Parents Devotion Week 4 - Raising Teachable Athletes

👨👩👧 PARENT DEVOTION

Raising Teachable Athletes

Opening Reflection
It’s natural to want to protect your child—especially when they’re corrected or challenged. But coachability is one of the most important traits a young athlete can develop, and parents play a key role in shaping it.

Scripture
📖 “Listen to advice and accept discipline, and at the end you will be counted among the wise.” — Proverbs 19:20

Devotional Message
Children learn how to respond to authority and feedback by watching their parents. When parents reinforce respect for coaches and the learning process, athletes gain confidence and maturity. When parents question, excuse, or override correction, growth becomes harder.

This week, encourage your child to listen, learn, and respond with effort. Help them see correction as a gift, not a punishment. Remind them that being coachable today prepares them for leadership tomorrow—in sports, school, and life.

Reflection Questions

  • How do I talk about coaches and correction at home?

  • Am I encouraging growth or defending comfort?

  • What example am I setting through my own teachability?

Parent Prayer
Lord, help me guide my child with wisdom and humility. Teach me to support their growth by reinforcing respect, effort, and learning. Let our home be a place that values coachability and character. Amen.
