Week 3 Theme: Helping Your Child Navigate Hard Moments*
Opening Reflection:
As parents, it’s hard to watch our children struggle. We want to protect them from disappointment, failure, and pain. But adversity—handled the right way—can be one of the greatest teachers in a young athlete’s life.
Scripture:
“We also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope.” — Romans 5:3–4
Devotional Message:
Children learn how to handle adversity by watching how adults respond to it. When parents stay calm, encouraging, and grounded, children learn resilience. When parents react with frustration, blame, or pressure, adversity feels overwhelming.
This week, focus on guiding your child through challenges rather than rescuing them from them. Encourage effort, perspective, and faith. Remind them that setbacks don’t define them—how they respond does. Your steady support helps them develop confidence that lasts far beyond sports.
Reflection Questions:
• How do I respond when my child struggles or feels discouraged?
• Am I helping them learn resilience or adding pressure?
• What lesson might God be teaching through this challenge?
Parent Prayer:
Lord, give me wisdom and patience as I support my child through adversity. Help me encourage growth, resilience, and faith during difficult moments. Let my words and actions point them toward strength and hope. Amen.
