Coach Devotion Week 3

Theme: Leading Athletes Through Adversity
Opening Reflection
Adversity is guaranteed in sports. Losing seasons, tough practices, injuries, and unmet expectations are part of the journey. Coaches play a critical role in shaping how athletes respond when pressure and disappointment show up.
Scripture
“Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as His children.” — Hebrews 12:7
Devotional Message
Great coaches don’t remove adversity—they help athletes navigate it. The way you address mistakes, setbacks, and failure teaches athletes how to respond in life. Adversity becomes damaging only when athletes feel alone or uncertain.
This week, lead with clarity and encouragement. Help athletes see adversity as part of growth, not a reason to lose confidence. Reinforce effort, accountability, and resilience. When coaches remain steady during tough moments, athletes gain trust, perspective, and mental toughness.
Reflection Questions
• How do I respond when my team struggles?
• Am I creating a safe environment for growth through mistakes?
• How can I better teach resilience through my leadership?
Coach Prayer
God, give me wisdom to lead well through adversity. Help me encourage growth, resilience, and confidence in my athletes during difficult moments. Let my leadership reflect patience, strength, and purpose. Amen.
